Read MoreSolitaire Bypass ring, 1. 12ct aquamarine stone, 14k white gold. I like the simple and unique design, and that the stone doesn't have claws that catch and snag on things as the transition between the stone and band is very smooth. Sometimes towel or cloth fibres will catch between the stone and the setting on each side though. Because the ring is held by tension the band has to be thicker to provide this support. I don't mind the thicker band though, as it feels very durable. The stone did come loose in the setting once and I took it to a jewellery shop to be repaired. I was told that it is common with this type of setting for the stone to come loose in the setting and shift around. However I was told it is not likely to fall out as it is held very securely even if it comes loose in the setting.

Well, that's because alexandrites are one of the rarest gemstones. In fact, it's naturally formed in only a few regions of the world.
The finest alexandrites are typically vivid green in fluorescent light and purplish red under incandescent light.
One of the best ways to determine if you have a real alexandrite is to monitor its color change in different lighting. In bright light, it should appear green and in dim light, it should look red or slightly purple.
